Dr. Xander Verbeek is head of Research & Development at the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organization (IKNL). A multidisciplinary department of 150+ professionals in epidemiology, data science, informatics, software and database design and development. The department collaborates with various (inter)national partners ranging from other cancer registries, universities, hospitals to start-ups in the research and development of data and knowledge products and services aimed at reducing the impact of cancer.
Xander studied applied physics at the Technical University in Eindhoven and holds a PhD in Biophysics, Faculty of Medicine, Maastricht University Medical Center. He followed an additional post-doctoral education program in Health information Management at the Erasmus University, Rotterdam. Before joining IKNL in 2014, he worked for 12 years at Philips Healthcare at the cross section of research, business units and corporate strategy.
Xander has a passion for working together with creative people on digital innovations aimed at making a difference for society, public and patients and their loved ones. His drives are curiosity, discovery and surprise and were shaped during his childhood where he spent time tinkering and timbering in his father’s atelier, surrounded by art, archeological, historical and geological artefacts.
