Ronald Petru MD, has been the Chief Medical Information Officer of the Radboud University Medical Center since April 2014. He combines this with his work as pediatric intensivist and he is also an experienced programmer in several programming languages and is certified as inpatient application specialist for the Epic EMR system.
Ronald Petru (Prague, 1967) studied Medicine at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (Cum Laude, 1994), Pediatrics (2002) and Pediatric Intensive Care (2004) in Nijmegen and has worked in pediatric intensive care ever since. He is a also a guest lecturer and member of the advisory council for Clinical Informatics at the School of Medical Physics at the Technical University of Eindhoven. Ronald Petru is a member of the advisory committee for quality registration and information at the Netherlands’ Federation of Medical Specialists, founding member of the Netherland's CMIO association and representative at the advisory platform of the Ministry of Health on privacy, security and legal issues.
His main area's of interest are the relationship between data, information, applications and the opportunities that adoption of information technology can provide to improve healthcare with a realistic view of a practicing care provider. Focussing mostly on data science, his interest and experience span from policy making all the way to IT infrastructural needs, training, leadership and change management. He has a specific interest in the balance between patient safety and privacy viewed from the medical perspective.
