Matthew Hudson was appointed Director for Resource management and better regulation in DG Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) in 2016. He led the preparations and negotiations of the EU4Health Programme in 2020 and is now leading the implementation. He became Interim Director of the Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) on the establishment of the Agency in February 2021.
He joined the European Commission in 1993, and has served in a variety of posts in DG Agriculture and DG Health and Consumers, working on issues including: international veterinary and phytosanitary questions; the WTO Agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures; institutional relations; resource management, better regulation; crisis management and business continuity planning.
Prior to the Commission, he joined the United Kingdom civil service in 1979, his last post being from 1989-1993 to the United Kingdom Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels.
