Prof Jörg Debatin

Health Innovation Hub

After studying medicine in Heidelberg, he pursued a career in radiology with stations at Duke, Stanford and Zurich. In 1998 he was appointed to the chair of diagnostic radiology at the University Hospital in Essen. At the end of 2003, he moved to the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf as Medical Director and Chairman of the Board. In this function, he made a significant contribution to the successful renewal of the hospital in terms of content and economy; also and above all through the consistent digitalization of the third largest hospital in Germany, which has been working paper-free ever since.
In 2011, he took over as CEO of amedes Holding AG, which he sold in 2014 and moved to GE Healthcare as Vice-President. As Chief Technology and Medical Officer he was responsible for global technology and product development. His particular focus was on the development of the potential of digitization and artificial intelligence in imaging. Since March 2019 he has been Chairman of the health innovation hub (hih) of the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin.
