A New Agenda for Europe: Value Based Healthcare: Promoting Quality and Sustainability

With the growing number of patients with chronic conditions, treatments becoming more and more effective but also more and more expensive, and an ageing population with quite often multiple comorbidities, value-based healthcare will be key in continuing to promote quality and sustainability at the same time, while integrating social care and supporting public health. What are the challenges of moving from volume to value? Is data interoperability ready? What about financial incentives? To date value-based healthcare still seems to remain an objective more than it is a reality in practice. In this session, organized in close collaboration with the Portuguese EU Presidency, international experts will discuss how moving from volume to value represents a true paradigm shift for health systems and will present use cases of innovative care models that have proven to reward a focus on outcomes.
