Empowering Patients in the Digital Age

Patients now have increased access to knowledge, medical records and peer support via the internet. As such digital solutions can encourage healthier behaviours, empowering citizens and engaging them in their health and well-being, they should also result in improved clinical and financial outcomes. How do we extend the reach of citizen and patient empowerment, so it has a real impact on health systems´ sustainability? How do we encourage information and mobile app prescriptions to better guide them through the best and the worst the Internet has to offer? Highlighting the benefits and the challenges of engaging patients in self-management and behaviour change, this session will also discuss the efforts we still need to make generalize digital health literacy, maximize adoption and enter a new age for sustainable patient-driven health.
