Azar Nomination to Lead HHS Advances in Senate

On Tuesday, January 9th, the Senate Finance Committee held a hearing on the nomination of Alex Azar to be the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Azar, who served as HHS General Counsel and Deputy Secretary under President Bush, touched on a number of HIMSS priority policy issues during the hearing including telehealth, the move to value-based care and implementation of 21st Century Cures. The Senate Finance Committee is expected to vote on Azar’s nomination later this month, clearing the way for a confirmation vote by the full Senate.
