Gavin Farry, MBA, CPA, is Chief Financial Officer for HIMSS, a global advisor and thought leader supporting the transformation of the health ecosystem through information and technology.
Farry is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the financial function across the U.S. and international offices—including all aspects of finance, accounting, audit and tax compliance, treasury, investment, financial planning and analysis. He brings to the position a passion for building and leading high-performing teams around core business functions, and for partnering with executive management to provide finance and business leadership—particularly around growth initiatives and change management.
Prior to joining HIMSS, Farry was the chief administrative and financial officer of Thresholds, one of Illinois’ largest and oldest community-based mental health agencies. Farry played an integral role in shaping the strategic planning and financial oversight for Thresholds and its affiliated companies, overseeing annual operating budget of more than $70 million as well as a large real estate portfolio. Additionally, Farry oversaw numerous essential departments—including talent management, IT and Facilities—and represented Thresholds on several committees of the board of directors.
Prior to Thresholds, Farry spent 11 years in various finance management roles, including leading the financial reporting department for AMLI Residential, an institutional real estate fund managed by Morgan Stanley, and leadership and management of a divisional accounting team for publicly traded Equity Office Properties, subsequently acquired by private equity firm Blackstone. Farry began his career at Deloitte, providing audit and consulting services across various industries, including international experience working abroad for three years.
Farry is originally from South Africa, where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting and commerce from University of the Witwatersrand. He is a certified public accountant and also holds a master’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 2014, he was named "Chicago CFO of the Year" in the not-for-profit company division by Financial Executives International.
