I am excited to be part of a team that informs, encourages and galvanizes our membership and audiences to engage, learn and implement best practices in health information and technology. The growth of HIMSS into the global organization it is today has been rewarding to watch happen.
I had a near-death experience six years ago, where I had to be placed in an induced coma and on a ventilator for three weeks due to a medical error. I was in the hospital for two months and lost the ability to speak and walk during this time. I know first-hand how wrong things can go if a medical team does not have the right information at the point of decision. The thought leadership, events and research that I market showcase the unique expertise HIMSS has to help solve for what I experienced.
Knowing that I work for a company that is offering solutions to obviate the type of error that almost cost me my life is truly a gift. It gives me hope that the change HIMSS is making can prevent someone else from having to go through what I did.
